Financial Glossary what is consumer-confidence

Consumer Confidence

Often expressed in the form of a numerical index and the result of a survey, consumer confidence measures the optimism of consumers in an attempt to forecast their future spending, which is a major influence on an economy's well-being. Forecasts about consumer confidence feed through into stockmarket prices, as analysts make predictions about the volume of goods which retailers will sell, and the prices they can get for them.
