Exchange Price Input Computer Code

EPIC codes are the three or four letter abbreviations given to company share quotations (e.g. the EPIC code for Vodafone is VOD). They are unique to each company and serve the same function as 'ticker symbols' in the US. In the US, almost any newspaper or web article about a quoted company refers to its ticker symbol, and because of this investors are familiar with them. This makes it very easy for investors when they are using websites and need to search for a company. In the UK, the stock exchange now uses Tradable Instrument Display Mnemonic (TIDM) codes in place of EPIC codes. SEDOL and ISIN codes are also used.
