Going Private |
| The repurchase of all of a company's outstanding stock by the management, a private investor or a private equity firm. The management may be backed by a private equity firm in taking the company private, or new management may be put in. As a result of such an initiative, the company stops being publicly traded. The deals are sometimes described as MBOs (management buy-outs) or LBOs (leveraged buy-outs, referring to the high levels of debt often taken on by the purchaser). |
