Occupational Pensions Board

The Occupational Pensions Board is the renamed Office of the Registrar of Non-participating Employments (RONPE), set up in the wake of changes in 1958, to control the employers pension schemes that appeared following legislation for an earnings related Graduated Pension supplement to the basic state pension. The OPB protects both employees contracted-out of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (SERPS) and the states interests in underwriting a minimum level of benefit provided by such schemes. Its other tasks include applying certain controls to contracted-out money purchase pension schemes.
