| A member of a stock exchange, a market maker, who provides a market in one or more securities. A specialist, which can be an individual, partnership or corporation, executes limit orders and buys and sells securities when abnormal fluctuations occur to maintain stability and makes money either by charging a commission or from the spread when acting as a broker. |
