Financial Glossary what is volume-weighted-average-price

Volume Weighted Average Price

A measure of the price at which most of a days trading took place. It is calculated as the value of trades divided by the volume over a given period. It may also be used to measure the efficiency of institutional trading or the performance of traders and is a calculation performed by the London Stock Exchange, for example, to set closing prices for shares traded on the SETS order book system. The LSE uses a closing 10 minute VWAP to set closing prices on SETS.
